A pale yellow colour, Lions de Suduiraut Blanc Sec 2023 presents an open nose on white flowers and citrus fruits, then with aeration it evolves towards notes of passion fruit and a mineral touch. The attack is round and fresh, the delicious mid-palate reveals flavours of pink pomelo, pear and toasted hazelnut. The finish is persistent and saline with aromas of hazelnut and pear. A generous wine with good freshness.

• 57% Semillon • 30% Sauvignon Blanc • 13% Sauvignon Gris •

A pretty white with sliced mango, apple and pear aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with a tight center palate and stone undertones.

Just bottled, the 2023 Lions de Suduiraut Blanc Sec is superb. It offers a bit more mid-palate creaminess than most years but also retains terrific freshness and energy. Lemon confit, tangerine peel, passion fruit, jasmine and crushed rocks all race across the palate. The 2023 has the most Sémillon ever here—an inspired choice, to be sure, yielding an especially versatile dry white. I would be thrilled to have a case at the house.

With linden, orange rind and iodine aromatics presaging a fresh, linear palate that is sheer joy to drink, this wine will be perfect for opening your summer party or serving at a high-end picnic, with the Suduiraut name. The majority Sémillon lends mid palate opulence. I like the balance between the acidity and the alcohol. Barrel ageing will give this more delineation and breadth - and potential for a higher score.
